The Northern Voice Collective (NVC) is a team of experienced professionals, dedicated to delivering quality voice and performance training, in the North West. Nic, Laura and Jude, offer long and short term training in vocal technique, accents and text. There are 1-2-1 sessions, drop in classes and workshops to help you.

Who are we?


Nic

With an MA Voice Studies from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and a varied performance career spanning 10 years, accent and vocal coach Nic’s work covers the fundamentals of voice training from breath through to text as well as accent coaching and character voicing for gaming and animation.

She currently teaches accents and voice at LIPA and ICAT, with previous engagements at RADA, Arts Ed and East 15. Her accent coaching credits encompass work for CBBC, Hatrick Productions, Radio 4 Comedy, Theatre 503 and Theatre Deli. Nic also runs a thriving 1-2-1 voice practice helping individuals with tailored voice advice and accent training and is the founder of Voice Workout, which works to provide regular voice and accent classes to any professional voice users across the north of England.

As a voice actor Nic works internationally voicing commercial, corporate and character scripts with a client list including Tesco, NSPCC and the BBC. She also co-runs @VOSocialNorth, the first voiceover industry specific social in the North.  www.nicredmanvoice.com

Jude

Jude trained as an actor at Webber Douglas Academy. She retrained as a Voice teacher at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 1996 and completed her MA in Voice Studes in 2002, specialising in accent work. 

As an actor, Jude has worked nationally and internationally including: Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round, Royal National Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Theatr Clwyd, Shakespeare &Co. (USA), Chesapeake Theatre Co. (USA), Said &Done Theatre Co. and more recently Event Horizon Theatre Co. 

Jude has taught text, voice and accents in a variety of settings including: Rose Bruford College, Webber Douglas Academy, Guildford School of Acting, Lyric Theatre Belfast, Shakespeare & Co. (USA), Academy for Classical Acting (USA), The Shakespeare Theater Company (USA), Dukes Theatre Lancaster, Young Everyman Playhouse Liverpool. She currently teaches Voice, Accents, Acting, and directs at LIPA. Jude has been known to occasionally act, has recently embarked on a Voice Over career, and works as a consultant for Crying Out Loud.

Laura

After completing her voice training at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2008, Laura worked as a freelance voice teacher in London at a variety of drama schools including East 15 and Arts Ed. She then moved back to the North West in 2013 to take up the Head of voice at LIPA. 

Laura is a fully certified Linklater Voicework Practitioner.

Her voice coaching work has ranged from accent work on productions at the Finborough Theatre to in-depth text work on Master and Margareta as well as coaching senior PR executives, professionalathletes, teachers andbarristers. She has also facilitated weekend performance training workshops across the UK. 

Laura has also worked as a producer for TriForce Monologue Slam, run workshops for Spotlight and contributed to the How to do Accents series of books"

What we do


Voice Coaching - physical release, breath work, resonance and vocal quality exploration, volume and projection, articulation and clarity, character voice manipulation and creation.

Presentation Skills - physical and vocal preparation, confidence and presence, dealing with nerves. 


Accent & Dialect Training - audition prep, accent check in sessions, start to finish accent acquisition for new accents, production support (in rehearsal/on set/1-2-1).

Voice Over Training - mic technique, demo prep, bespoke warm ups, approaches to copy, character building for animation and gaming.


Text Work - textual analysis, imagery, breath and text connection, clarity of communication, sight reading and cold reading, audition and self-tape preparation

Professional Services - public speaking/voice support for work presentations, teachers or barristers. Suitable for anyone in need of media training or presenting.
